The largest of all the Kiwis, the Great Spotted stands at about 45cm tall, their eggs are the largest of all birds, relative to body size. Their natural habitat, 700 to 1100 metres above sea level, is less hospitable to predators so they are able to maintain a more stable population than other Kiwi. They are territorial and the most aggressive of the Kiwi and live in a large (up to 50) maze-like burrow.
