Little Penguin Encounters

Little Penguin Encounters

Get up close and personal with our world-famous Little Penguins. Learn all about the 'naughty' and 'good' penguins of the month, and take part in hand-feeding them in their enclosure! You'll get to experience what goes on behind the scenes, discovering all about the day-to-day care of these character-filled little birds. And you'll also learn about our rescue and rehabilitation centre here at the Aquarium. Minimum Age is 6 years. You must wear closed shoes and be able to climb stairs to participate in this encounter. Children 14 years and under must be accompanied by a paying adult. Due to the limited number of spaces available tickets are strictly non refundable.

Natives Icons Tour

Focusing on New Zealand's native icons, we think a Native Icons Guided Tour is the best way to truly experience the Aquarium. You'll get a chance to view Kiwi in a purpose built Nocturnal House, have a close up look at a Kiwi egg, learn about the mysteries of the Tuatara before being introduced to our world famous Little Penguins. You'll also hear stories and interesting facts about many of our other special residents and explore the aquarium at your leisure. General Admission is included. Tickets are non refundable.

Sensory Bag Hire

Enhance your visit to the National Aquarium by hiring one of our sensory bags. There are four themed bags you can choose from: Ancient Life, Animals of Aotearoa, Coral Reefs, or Oceans. Each bag includes a variety of useful items, including a fidget toy; an interactive learning guide; a tactile box with real shells, coral or rocks; and more. Whether you would like help dealing with the stimulating aquarium environment, or just want a few extra activities to help remain engaged, hiring a sensory bag can help!

Terrapin Encounter

Terrapin Encounter

Get up close with this impressive squad of tiny turtles - you’ll be surprised at how quickly they can move. After helping our keeper collate some offi-shell records, you will need a steady hand to dish up some nutritious morsels for their lunch. Minimum Age is 6 years. Under the Sea Party

Under the Sea Party

Have a FIN-TASTIC time being surrounded by an underwater world. Dive into the fun by exploring the Pania Reef tank and listening to keeper talks. Party package includes 10 children and 2 adults. Additional children (up to a maximum of 15) and adults are additional. Self catering is strictly not permitted. Due to limited availability bookings are non refundable.

Virtual Penguin Encounter

Virtual Penguin Encounter

With this special live video chat, you can visit our Little Penguins at Penguin Cove from anywhere in the world! Invite your friends, be shown around the habitat, visit some burrows and have a chat with one of our penguin keepers and maybe even meet one of your favourite Little Penguins – all from your computer or phone. Up to four virtual guests can log in at the same time and you can send us questions prior to the call. Time is 9am NZ time. Bookings are non refundable.
