Did you know that the name Tuatara come from the Maori language, and means "peaks on the back"?

The Tuatara Soft Toy with Sound is an adorable plush version of New Zealand’s native tuatara.

Tuatara are rare, medium-sized reptiles found only in Aotearoa. They are the last survivors of an order of reptiles that thrived in the age of the dinosaurs. Tuatara are the only surviving members of the order Sphenodontia, which was well represented by many species during the age of the dinosaurs, some 200 million years ago. All species except the tuatara declined and eventually became extinct about 60 million years ago.

This children’s toy includes some of the tuatara’s iconic features such as its olive green to brown colouring, and crest of spikes running along the back. It makes a lovely gift for little ones.

The Tuatara Soft Toy with Sound is part of our collection of soft toys designed by Antics. The range showcases our native birds, critters and creepy crawlies.
